Cardo Packtalk Edge Duo Review: vs Pro, Neo and Sena 50S
At a Glance
The Packtalk Edge Duo is two pre-matched Edge units in one box, built for a rider and passenger or two riders who travel together. It carries Cardo's second-generation mesh, 40mm JBL speakers, up to 13 hours of battery and the magnetic Air Mount on both helmets. If you don't need crash detection, it is the kit most two-up riders should start with.
- Pick the Edge Duo for the easiest mount and charging on the go.
- Pick the Pro Duo if you want crash detection and 45mm speakers.
- Pick the Neo Duo to save money and keep the same mesh and audio.
- Pick the Sena 50S Dual if your riding group is already on Sena.

Check price on AmazonEdge vs Pro: Is Crash Detection Worth It?
Cardo lists the Packtalk Pro at US$499.95 per unit and the Edge at US$439.95. In a duo, that gap is paid twice. What the difference buys is specific: crash detection, 45mm speakers instead of 40mm, and Auto On/Off, which powers the unit down when the helmet sits still. Mesh, range, battery, mount and waterproofing are the same on both.
Crash detection works through the unit's sensors plus the Cardo Connect app and your phone, and it needs cell service to send the alert. If you and your partner always ride together, the other person is already your safety net, which is why the Edge Duo is the better value for most couples. If one of you often commutes or tours alone, the Pro earns its price.
Edge vs Neo: Where the Savings Come From
On the road, the two sound and connect the same. Cardo's own comparison gives them the same mesh generation, range, 40mm JBL speakers and 13-hour battery. The Neo gives up three things: the magnetic Air Mount (it uses a clickable mount instead), charging while riding, and Edgephones compatibility. The warranty is also shorter, 2 years against the Edge's 3.
For weekend rides that end before the battery does, the Neo Duo is the smart saving. For all-day touring, being able to plug in mid-ride is the reason to pay for the Edge.
15 Riders or 31? A Note on the Spec Sheets
Cardo's Edge vs Pro comparison lists a maximum of 15 riders in a mesh group. Its product comparison page and the Amazon listing for the Edge Duo say 31. Retailers repeat both numbers. For a duo kit this doesn't change anything, since you are two riders, but if you plan to join a large club ride, confirm the current group limit with Cardo before buying.
Cardo or Sena?
On paper the Sena 50S has a longer unit-to-unit range (up to 2 km in open terrain) and a larger private group (Group Mesh up to 24 riders), plus an Open Mesh mode for large rides. Cardo counters with an IP67 rating on the spec sheet and the Air Mount. The deciding factor is usually your riding friends: mesh works best inside one brand.
That gap is smaller than it used to be. According to the Edge Duo listing, Cardo units with a Bluetooth 5.2 chip can connect with Sena riders through the Cardo Connect app. Sena's own documents also disagree with each other on the 50S battery, from 11 to 13 hours of mesh talk time depending on the version of the spec, so treat battery claims as a range rather than a promise.
Pairing Two Edges and Adding a Second Helmet
Two units in a Duo are set up to talk to each other through Cardo's mesh, and the Cardo Connect app lets you create or manage the group before the ride. If you already own one Edge, you don't need a Duo: a second unit is enough.
If you move one unit between two helmets instead, check the kit carefully. Cradles differ by model, and at least one Amazon bundle pairs an Edge with a Packtalk Bold second-helmet kit that the listing itself says will not fit the Edge, Pro or Neo. Buy the second-helmet kit made for your exact unit.
Want Mesh for Two at a Lower Price?
Every kit above is a premium purchase. If the goal is simply talking to your passenger, a lower-cost mesh unit can do the job with fewer extras. See our Asmax intercom review, or read more about mesh vs Bluetooth intercoms.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Cardo Packtalk Edge Duo worth it over the Pro Duo?
For riders who always travel together, yes. The Edge shares the same mesh, range, battery, mount and waterproofing as the Pro, and skips only crash detection, the larger 45mm speakers, and Auto On/Off. Cardo lists the Pro at about US$60 more per unit.
What does the Edge Duo give up compared to the Neo Duo?
The Neo matches the Edge on mesh, range, speakers and battery, but uses a clickable mount instead of the magnetic Air Mount, cannot charge while riding, and carries a 2-year warranty instead of 3.
How many riders can join a Cardo mesh group?
Cardo's Edge vs Pro comparison page lists 15 riders. Its product comparison page and the Edge Duo's Amazon listing say 31. For a two-rider duo kit this makes no difference, but confirm the current limit with Cardo before planning a larger group ride.
Can a Cardo Packtalk Edge talk to a Sena 50S?
According to the Edge Duo listing, Cardo units with a Bluetooth 5.2 chip can connect with Sena riders through the Cardo Connect app. Mesh works best when the whole group uses the same brand.
Is the Cardo Packtalk Edge Duo waterproof?
Cardo rates the Edge, Pro and Neo at IP67, meaning dust-tight and submersible to one metre for 30 minutes. Sena does not publish an IP rating for the 50S.
Bottom Line
For two riders who travel together, the Packtalk Edge Duo covers what matters: the same mesh, audio and battery as the Pro, the easiest mount in the lineup and charging on the go. Step up to the Pro Duo only if crash detection fits how you ride, drop to the Neo Duo if you want to save and don't need to charge mid-ride, and choose the Sena 50S Dual when your group already runs Sena.
Prices change often. Cardo lists single units between about US$350 and US$500; duo packs vary by retailer and promotion. Mounting a single Edge on a Shoei RF-1400? See our guide to the best intercom for the RF-1400.
